For many, the holiday season remains a special time of year, and is traditionally celebrated with gifts, food, family and friends. With Thanksgiving Day and the December holidays within our reach, millions across our nation are readying their bellies to devour granny’s “greens, beans, potatoes, and tomatoes,” yet, there are still far too many, right in our own communities, who simply won’t be able to absorb the cost associated with a quality Thanksgiving meal with their loved ones.
NY Jets Defensive Lineman Muhammad Wilkerson recognizes this devastating circumstance, and is doing his part to help ease hunger around the holidays for a few families in need.
Over the past four years, Wilkerson and his T.E.A.M. 96 Foundation, have hosted an annual holiday food giveaway in Linden, NJ, where the Jets’ Walter Payton ‘Man of the Year’ grew up.
This year’s “Thanksgiving SACKS” giveaway was held at the Linden PAL (Police Athletic League), with the generous support from the area’s local Sam’s Club who provided the food.
The All-Pro star, along with teammates Steve McLendon and Brandin Bryant, and Khaseem Greene, who recently spent time playing with the Detroit Lions, graciously distributed sizable “sacks” of Thanksgiving essentials, such as turkeys, pecan and apple pies, and all the other trimmings, to 200 families right in time for the holiday.
Lafina Turner, Membership Manager at the Linden, NJ Sam’s Club, commended Wilkerson’s effort in aiding those in his community, and spoke on the importance of giving back in the video below:
